reminds me of "I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees." – Thoreau
and "In the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul." – John Muir

instantly reminded me of "the tree with the lights in it" (pilgrim at tinker creek). the tree aspect is just a coincidence of it but it echoes the same idea of the purity of seeing things without any associations

i'm loving this so far ... the story almost reminds me a bit of The Snow Child but with autumn vibes
