This is pretty much a textbook example of how to write a pastiche. There is enough new territory here to keep the reader interested and it incorporates a previous setting and even a character from one of Burrough's original novels. However, it is not so divergent from Burroughs' books that the story elements seem out of kilter (which is a factor in the later Will Murray Tarzan Conqueror of Mars book).
