Gansel’s portrait of the salvaged language- a necessity in an area filled with speakers of all different languages- makes me long for the translation abilities I once had.

Continuing to build her case for translation as a form of poetry (an argument Ive welcomely accepted) Gansel brings her eye for beauty to the page in a way that reminds me of my own desires to capture my view of the world by any means possible.

Gansel shifts into the second phase of their career in translation and poetry, this time focusing on the active political and cultural documentation of the Vietnam war through the translation of poems in the collective voice.

Continuing the translation as a bridge metaphor, translation is a path to liberation that poetry treads through communal human experience.

On the first day of my journey to read daily, I found it was difficult to not let my eyes tumble down the page in spots where my interests waned. However-through the dual use of my bookmark-I almost always found new items of interest in the sections I would have left glazed over.

Currently Gansel’s childhood fascinates me her love of translation is like an uncut gem in her heart, already showing a promising glow.
