To summarise for you - quake champions is also a game. A hero shooter like overwatch and this comic basically provides backstory for the playable characters.
Think of it as a series of one shots explaining how these characters have arrived on this world.
It also tries to explain why they respawn in the game which you’ve got to respect that they’re incorporating that mechanic into the lore
