“I see that sort of thing less and less these days though. Maybe there aren’t many lost things around anymore. Or maybe I’ve just stopped noticing them. Too busy doing other stuff, I guess”. Though this wasn’t my favorite Shaun Tan work, it was still enjoyable! I’d give it a 3.75/5 stars. I’m interested in reading more by him!

becoming hardworking and busy individuals in the process with no time—nor tolerance for magic and whimsy or anything different or things that don’t “belong.” This quote from the end of the book is great, “I still think about the lost thing from time to time. Especially when I see something out of the corner of my eye that doesn’t quite fit. You know something with a weird, sad, lost sort of look.”

I liked this book—not quite as much as The Arrival but close enough. I loved how fun the blurb in the book flap is, it’s great! The art is cool—but I preferred the art in The Arrival a lot more. The story took me a minute to get—though I don’t know if I understood it completely, maybe I, too, have lost the thing. It is about misfits and how we assimilate as we grow up into whatever society needs of us
