Still in the second section (1948). I love how the author shows and doesn’t tell. Things happen and they’re only hinted at. The protagonist continues to live in a rundown hotel and rights for a newspaper. It sounds like he wants to start writing about the homeless.

Still in ‘48. Gorgeous and nearly perfect. Dialogue is not as strong as the narrative sections. I love the simple verse. High impact. The main character realizes he has some sort of PTSD. We have a view of LA. That is now gone. Bunker Hill and the orange funicular.

1946-1948: New York & Manhattan. Canadian D-Day veteran committing slow suicide in the Big Apple. This is poetry more than prose. Narrative unfolding via 1st person memories of home & the Service interspersed with 3rd person omniscient passages. From the narration, it appeared that the change in narrator doesn’t coincide with chapters or sections. Beautiful descriptions of the city’s angles & shadows.
