Ursula is the kind of writer who keeps on telling, not showing, but I think it's fine. It's an old approach but I think she built the world as she wanted. Though I don't clearly know why tings happened this way, why would a mage sail his boat to the open sea without knowing how to hunt a shadow? What even is the reasoning?
