So, as Mike handed me each book with Marie Brennan’s story in it, juggling them and excitedly skimming as much as I could, I bought the whole series. And so a new idea of how to read this anthology was born… read it by author, not by collection.
The first Marie Brennan story I read was so freaking clever and about a gosh darn DRYAD! I was hooked. Rich imagery and immersive story telling.

I got this collection of 5 books at ReaderCon 34 (2024). To be totally honest, the name was a big sell for me ( I know, definitely judging book by its cover) and also because I flipped through the authors and saw Marie Brennan’s name staring back at me yelling “READ ME!”

(A mask of flesh was the first one I read for reference!) I really did try to read the stories as they were written in the book, it just didn’t grab me the way doing a study and comparison of one author does.
