I’ve realized what drives me crazy about the dialogue in this book. It’s all written like Ari thinks and talks. Like, every character sounds the same and deeply unrealistic because they all talk in long eloquent sentences and speak honestly about their feelings. Which feels particularly unrealistic when it comes to teenagers. It’s driving me crazy

There are some beautiful sentiments in this book but the dialogue throws me off every time 😭 it’s so flowery and on the nose and just unrealistic. It is driving me insane yet I persist

“I used to live in a world that was made up of the things I thought. I didn’t know how small that world was. I was suffocating in my own thoughts. It was like living in a world of make-believe. And the world I lived in now was getting bigger and bigger.”
