Being Emily is overt in it's intentions, from the outset: to follow the tribulations of Chris as a closeted, would-be male to female transgender. It does quite well in meeting that goal. Despite the best intentions and a thorough understanding of her characters, Being Emily feels a little heavy-handed in simplistic parable.
