Fisher describes Tasceron, the fallen city of the Makers, as "a valley of night" and having "strange domes shadowed with steams and vapors." This description really emphasizes how destroyed this city is and how dangerous the city is yet it contains fruitful information for Galen, a relic keeper who lost his powers (Fisher 212).

As Galen, Raffi, Carys, and the Sekoi made their way to the Crow, they found that "the maze was complex" and "the passageways grew even narrower" (Fisher 346). They just barely escaped the Watch and they found the entrance to the House of Trees.

Galen, in a furious tone, exclaims that, "It's we who have to rise up, Shean, us, the remains of the Order!" (Fisher 291). Shean is a Relic Master, just like Galen, and they had stumbled upon them when the Sekoi led them to The Pyramid. Shean tried to heal Galen's powers but it didn't work, and Shean is talking about his lost hope. Galen is telling him that he must keep hope and strive to heal the Order.

Tasceron isn't just named the Evil City for no reason: "There are thieves, footpads, murderers, all the dregs of the world. And madmen-this place is haunted by them" (Fisher 242). I wouldn't want to be in a city full of these people, so this explains why people don't visit Tasceron. The quote really shows how dangerous Tasceron is and explains why it's a place of evil and darkness.
