I think it is important to provide a little context to the story as it starts for instance about the period and the geography, communities that are concerned so that people who might not belong to the respective region can also enjoy it fully. Otherwise it just slows down the pace.

That said, I have enjoyed reading the book so far though it did get slow for some time.
