The story is intriguing. Janki is born to an aheer confectioner family but his dad elopes and mom’s duped into being sold to a kotha where Janki’s taught music. She becomes a prestigious songstress, turns Muslim and life happens. At places there are a lot of insights into her life and mind; but at others where digging deeper is needed, a misty veil falls across the story.
