We hard coping trying to explain away the fact that the Isis cult was essentially monotheistic, as were most mystery cults of the era. It just wasn't an iconoclastic one like Christianity, the "intolerant monotheism" that the author, in true neopagan wiccan fashion, cannot appreciate as being the fundamental expression of something new and a desire to overturn the world.

The issue with a Goddess Person(tm) writing a book like this is that they get invested into the deity's "fundamental character" and start claiming that X or Y isn't "according to the character of the deity". "Isis can't be a war goddess, even if people made her so" she writes, apparently unaware that it is only ever humans that made deities whatever they are.

I can't believe the amount of actual, observable total mistakes in just a chapter or so. "The Egyptians never saw Seth as totally evil" um, they did though, when he just replaced Apep? That's his whole characterization then? Was this book edited at all? The author reacts with horror at the myth of Horus rape of Isis, saying it's about "denigrating all women everywhere" but then asks if it comes from Min myths.

Guys they're bringing up the supposed prehistorical One Great Mother Goddess that was supposedly "split" and supposedly "replaced" by more patriarchal religions....
