I was thinking of reading this soon, and the reviews are quite mixed

Yes, even reading this I have mixed feelings. I think it's because it takes the reader to a dark place (admittedly a beautifully written dark place - but still...) and this just isn't for everyone. The structure of the book is non-liner so this adds to the uneasy feeling you get when reading it because you are constantly trying to piece together the plot - it's rather disorientating.

Basically, if you're looking for a light and happy read this probably won't be for you!
