Finished the section on the civil war. The tale that sticks with me is that of a woman knitting gifts to be sent secretly to the white army soldiers, only to a couple pages be working as an architect for the state. You really get a sense of how much the Bolsheviks had to rely on the old tsarist officials.

And the fantasy tales of pre-revolutionary life for the upper crust... No wonder they wanted things back!
