Chapter 2: The Temple and Eden. The Temple is described in Edenic language. Eden was the place where God and Man communed. Post fall, the Temple was that place. Symbolic of that, Cheribim are the guardians to Eden and on the veil of the Holy of Holies. In Jewish thought the Tree of Life is now Torah Pr 3:18 (life giver). For Christian, that’s supplanted by Christ and shown in the treating of the veil Luke 23:45

Chapter 5:
1. King was an extension of God’s kingship. But forbidden to be priest

2. God waited 400 years after Israel entered the Land to build the Temple for Israel needed to be renowned by the nations

3. Bc the destruction of the Temple would dishonor God to the nations, He left it up even in Israel’s sin, until their sin was so great that they dishonored Him more than the destruction of the Temple would

Finished chapter 4: The Temple as a place for God’s Name. The Tabernacle was a symbol of God being with Israel, the Temple was a permanent place that was not just for Israel, but the nations to worship God. The Temple wasn’t built until 400 years after Israel entered the land because Israel was not obedient and stable enough as a nation to warrant respect from neighboring nations and therefore respect to God

Finished ch 3: The Sanctuary and Sinai. There was a lot good in this chapter, but to name a few things: The exodus was supposed to be remembered as a historical event, while the revelation at Sinai was supposed to be reenacted regularly through the Sanctuary, not remembered as a 1 time event. 2nd is that if the Church is now the Temple, Christian’s gathering is analogous to Israel meeting God “face to face”

Finished introduction and first 2 chapters. Chapter one dove into what “holy” means. It was good to understand it as “set apart.” In describing God, it draws out His otherness, His utter uniqueness, and for created things, being holy is being set apart for service to God. Holy doesn’t mean righteous, and except for the Sabbath, holy doesn’t come up at all in Genesis
