Today I am getting no GR updates or likes, so either GR is wonky or my new antivirus is. Anyone else?

Hey, Carol! I complained in status updates too. Here's what I discovered (copied-and-pasted from my status update):If you go to "Account settings" and click the tab "Account & notifications" you can see that the option to be notified via email is gone; it's notifications on the bell here only. I assume this is to manipulate members into regularly logging in. This started a few years ago when they stopped letting us read PMs in email, only notifying us that we'd received a PM. >:[

I think notifications on the bell are not a default--a crazy decision given the removal of email notifications. The boxes were ticked for me, but I'd had them ticked before this change.
Here's my status, if you want to see more:

I'm annoyed we weren't given a banner announcement. Members will be missing so much. Why is GR taking so much away from us?
Hello, all. Please see my post #2. GR has deleted the option to be alerted via email. If you want to see activity, you're forced to visit the site.
I effing HATE THIS.So, I have 800 friend requests. You want to guess how many notifications are up in the corner in the bell for likes? Yeah, I don't know either. And the fucking code batches the likes. I used to respond to each person that liked a review. Now it says "Caroline and many others liked your review of..." so I have no fucking idea who these many others are without clicking on the review. And messages?? Group comments?? Forget it. The drop down only scrolls back to about 10 actions, then you have to open a new page. that page still batches the likes. So they've made a system in which i am going to interact significantly less. On the up side, I've discovered more time in my personal life, now that I'm not trying to promote interactions here.
I encourage EVERYONE to go to the app store and leave a review of goodreads. It has a dismayingly inflated 4.8 score, which, as we know, is bullshit.
carol. wrote: "And the fucking code batches the likes. I used to respond to each person that liked a review."My likes have always been batched on the on-site notifications (but not [now permanently gone] email notifications). That one's not new with this update, at least not for me. I agree it's a pain!
Since i had always found the notifications in the upper right hand part of the screen useless, i never used them :(
H (is anyone getting notifications) Balikov wrote: "Are we all in the same boat?"Yes. It looks permanent.
H (is anyone getting notifications) Balikov wrote: "Are we all in the same boat?"There's an announcement in a yellow box at the top of the page when you go to "Account settings." Check it out.
What's unclear is why they say we'll no longer get a few kinds of notifications via email. I haven't gotten email notifications for anything other than giveaways for at least a week. I don't think that's a bug, though; I think we'll be getting nothing anymore, and they're not articulating (by accident or on purpose) that change well.
I suggest everyone export their record. I'm doing a long-overdue second export to LibraryThing and a first export to The Story Graph.

Happy to help!
I don't think I've ever received e-mail notifications from GR. Maybe from comments on my challenge, but I couldn't actually see what people commented until I logged in... so I just disabled that and log in regularly. For us "unpopular" folks, seeing that little red notification is always a treat. 😅
I don't understand the GR programming logic. But today I received an email update for my top friends. So it isn't turned off, it just seems . . . irregular. Do others get emails with a title line of "Updates from Kaia, MagretFume, and Phrynne" [obviously subbing in your top friends]?
Not just that - this post of yours from 4 days back is still the latest post on my feed. I guess they all went on a vacation this week.
Well, friends, I am with David and it is probably time to explore StoryGraph, but honestly, after both Booklikes and Leafmarks failed, I just can't, or at least, won't for quite a while. Please feel free to send me a message if you want me to notice something, because actual comments are buried in the notifications for likes. :( Be well.

There's little to explore on The Story Graph, Carol--unless you pay for a premium membership, I guess. (Yeah...not happening.) That site has been established since 2018, I believe, and is still a shell, not remotely close to a GR competitor. Right now, LibraryThing is better than TSG, and that's being generous. This sucks.

Nataliya wrote: "I tried that one and I’m very unimpressed."I'm sorry to sound pessimistic, but as I see it, if a site hasn't progressed much since its founding and is charging (a fairly pricey) membership to unlock features, no wonder it's a shell. It's also a stupid decision to charge when GR and LT are free, especially when your site is bare-bones. GR may be headed toward bare-bones--who knows?--but it's still miles away from that kind of bare-bones. I only created an account and imported my library to TSG because these were free to do, and I figured it can't hurt to have a second back-up. Amazon partially owns LT...
