this is like that iceberg meme where on the surface it’s an analysis of rockwell’s work and under the water it’s 100% Freud

I’m only in the preface and already this author gets it!! “It is my hope, on the contrary, that we will learn to take [Rockwell] more seriously and respectfully than we have yet done […] We have always, and on many registers, experienced Rockwell’s work in a more complex way than we have admitted to ourselves.” this is exactly what I was trying to get at in my dissertation lol
