"'By the time I had a conversation with a professional, I was an adult. This doctor asked me if I was

All I knew was that I had a sense of myself, and it was based on my lived reality.'" (138)

"'...and because many of them are shunned by their families and find their family in friends, who often age alongside them, they don't necessarily have the full support they need to age well.'" "'And I was like, "Oh my God, am I dying?" and she said, "No, you're not dying, I just want to run a karyotype." So then, of course, like everybody, you run home, you get on Web MD, and... I gave myself so many diseases!!!'" (112)
