Feeling a little disappointed this far. On page 62 Lamont writes “the media often centered our attention on the individual as hero (most often a white male), through classics such as The Great Gatsby (1925), Citizen Kane (1941) … American Psycho (2000), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and Nomadland (2021).
Huh?? These works are all critiques/parodies of the American Dream and American individualism.

Still underwhelmed. Lamont again brings up Lizzo as an exemplar of a public figure working to increase recognition for bigger women and girls. The text references a 2019 BET interview but does not discuss allegations against Lizzo of fostering a hostile work environment where her dancers were fat shamed. Clearly achieving recognition is a complicated and can be problematic.
