It draws from the noir well, which I always find experientially fun but which pushes me away from engaging. When your characters are kidnapped and pushed around and unable to find enough information, it becomes a theme park ride on tracks.
But the ride was all right & I suspect Part III might change genre.

honestly, having a bunch of book clubs every month with lovely people is just the only way for me to live - GENUINELY saved my life and saved me from despair :D not to be vulnerable on main and all that!

I believe it and am glad you found that path! You seem well suited to it.I finally emerged from my own years of despair on one particular soul-searching day and night in July, napped a little, then traveled to my first Otherland book club. So while the order of events is different for me the two events are still pleasantly connected in my body’s memories.
