Started Carmilla and already much improved from previous stories, especially giving the Female characters some depth. Only laugh was the oh I forgot to tell you she's dead in ghe dad's story

Bewitched is a departure from Edith Wartons usual fare but still maintains all the sharp takes on the people in a small English town. Yet this doesn't hold up the suspense of the creepy tale with a not fully resolved end

The Horla - good story so far but some funny dramatic details like the rant of the priest about dangerous wind, the goats with human faces and the alleged vampire drinking his milk which he proved by putting pencil lead on his lips??

An episode in cathedral history cont- so one person sees the creature but nothing happens to them and sounds more like a werewolf

This author in the intro is said to be a master of suspense, unless suspense is burying the lead til half way through in unnecessary architecture details and inconsistent cockney dialogue with a story told about something and two other people talking about it where the end of things (paper, skirts are stolen and nothing more.disturbance of grave causing spooky happenings doesn't scream vampire even if there's red eyes

Good lady ducayne is an interesting one. More experimental stealing of health by blood than traditional vampirism and the lady who's only considering good cause shes liberal with her fortune, her doctor does the dirty work with impliments rather than anyone's teeth. Well paced and holds the reveal to the end with a little natural romance even if the chief character is very naive and needs saving.

Carmilla was as good as expected and Dracula exerpt and From the Blood is life continue the female vampire trend with an emphasis on how the female vampire was often portrayed as sexual in its approach and not just charming as male vamps had been. The last story assumes the female is the vamp aswell. Enjoyable pace and not too much descriptions

Curse of the vourdalek- Tolstoy is not one known to be I won't say much of this or that but feels more like a retold story that way I guess and has the sake amount of drama and too honest comment on different nationality as you might expect. Love those sexy forehead lines on women you just met, especially in France. Here the Slavic vampire only sucks on those they care about and everyone is turned. Good pace tho

Varney the vampyr was actually quite good despite the half page describing the fair maidens shoulder, hair and eyelashes. The story is edited away down from a long book so it may have been more boring but now I want to know how we got to that ending wtf

The Vampr was like a shorter Dracula but written before. Drana unfolds in good time and none are safe! However the classic angel of woman without any thoughts of her own persist
