His observation was: White domination while his ppl were being eradicated. He saw this in Peru and Chile. Cholos were indigenous ppl. Visited Machu Pichu. Saw the differences between the indigenous ppl and privileged ignorant tourists who paid no importance to the ppl of the land. New race born: Mestizos -who shared a common language, culture, and problems to the indigenous ppl

He was a medical researcher: identifying the cause of symptom/death/illness of ppl which only turned out to be the misery they lived bc of social order whose lives wouldn’t improve until government would change the state of things. Symptom and cause. He didn’t have a cure for capitalism but he was in search of one.

This chapter talked about his time at MED school and also his journey at sea where he wrote everyday and dedicated that Diary to his dad. Highly problematic issue: he was 23 when he proposed to his first cousin at 16. At the end of this chapter, him and his friend decided to head to North America.
