I’m listening to the audiobook during my walks. I’d gotten into Descent Into Death to the point of Howard returning to his life narrative after relating his death experience, and I wanted to find out what this book had to say before I ran out of novel research and borrowing time. I didn’t know what terminal lucidity was. Now intrigued. When he talked about Eccles, I suddenly thought about grandma character.

The author’s scientific rigour and methodical approach to studying terminal lucidity and close correlate near-death experience, challenges the materialist assumption that there’s nothing to discover about these phenomena. He makes it clear the research is in its early days and curiosity requires investigating them. The last chapter is philosophical in how these phenomena suggest a different way to view our lives

The library only carries the audiobook so I bought the ebook for my kobo eReader. It’s difficult to find passages you want to remember, even with the bookmark function, in an audiobook. This book sparked a post idea for Psychology Today, and I wanted to quote a couple of passages. Plus I don’t think I’ll finish this before it’s due back. Lots to chew on.
