I've actually seen this in Victorian stuff before; they just mean the normal Christian God but they were weird Victorians and wanted to sound worldly

very weird. do you remember what you saw it in? i've read sooo much victorian stuff this year and this is the first i've seen it
probably in newspapers not an actual book. i have no idea where but i think i've definitely seen it more than once
