This book has a character vs. character conflict. Throughout the story, Bliss continually battles internally over her feelings for Garrick. She fights with herself, knowing that she wants to be with him but doesn't want to face the consequences if they were together. Bliss's brain fights with her heart, knowing that she loves Garrick but at the same time knows that she can't be the reason for the end of his career.

This book is mainly setting driven. Bliss, a college student, meets Garrick, a boy she thought was another college student but turns out to be her professor. She is falling in love with him, but knows nothing can happen between them because of their situation. She is his student, he is her professor. If the setting changed - Bliss could have gone to a different college or graduated - the whole story would change.
