Done with part 1. Chan does so well at communicating the feelings of listlessness, conflict, and yearning that all multiethnic and Filipino-descended individuals feel. She is not afraid to be pointed, honest, or unsparing. I am thankful for her words and her delicious directness.

Finished part 2. This section delved more deeply into Chan's complicated relationship with Catholicism, as well as the many places she's lived and her early experiences with love. Though I found this section less enjoyable than the previous, her same shrewdness, sharp command of language, and subtle humor brilliantly shine through.
