I picked up this to read as I recently read this author's previous work, which featured (not coincidentally) very similar themes.
While I would say it was overall fairly good, on this occasion I felt that the author has 'over-egged the pudding'. There were a lot of interesting historically based themes taken up but it all made for a little too much when crammed together in to 1 book - even with 3 storylines.

I'm reading this one as I was quite taken with this author's previous and similarly themed WWII historical fiction novel. Her very good writing still is a little undone in this case because past the halfway point (at 200 pages) the storylines are finally starting to gel, which is way overdue I'm afraid.
Will see it through now but I hope we get a reasonable and not too contrived finish to this book...?
