A Vine on a House (Ambrose Bierce)
4.5/5
The length and level of detail were just fine save one aspect: what were the motivations of Mr. Harding? There was one hint but I wish the motivation was stronger.

I would argue that this is not very Gothic, but it's Sherlock Holmes so it's always a treat to read.

Aside from the child bride, interesting! A little too short, but great gory details.

Barbara of the House of Grebe (Thomas Hardy)

The writing style was nice, but MY GOD there was no lesson here. The characters were all shallow and so apparently is Thomas Hardy if he thinks a burn victim could induce such horror. Everyone sucked and it wasn't spooky or atmospheric at all.

Selina Sedilia (Bret Harte)
2/5
Way too campy, quick, and straightforward. I would've been fine with the theatrical humor had it been more gothic and spooky.
