I honestly do not know what to make of either of them at this point.

Strange conclusion the author would come to in saying people of the time "may have found it difficult to imagine women as serious political threats." Isn't the fact that she was a serious political threat the reason that Mary Queen of Scots was executed in the first place?

I am still not sure what to make of Raleigh. I am glad that Bess did not appear to be too lonely, while he was off on his adventures. I'm glad she had her family and her household to take care of, while he continued to publicly ignore her despite the fact that they'd been married for a few years. He's kind of a dbag.

Walter is pissed because Bess ruined his career? Dude, seriously, you chose to get married. Man up, Buttercup

How sad for Bess that not only had her husband gotten out of prison and was off ignoring their marriage, but then Bess loses her young son. Things like this make me more and more angry at Elizabeth. "It was, however, no coincidence that Bess and her baby were left in prison in a plague-ridden London."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not gloss over Elizabeth's role in Mary'a execution. She signed the death warrant. There was no "counselors giving orders, and the execution being carried out." Elizabeth knew exactly what she was doing and I don't believe for one moment that she felt bad about it. She was a drama queen until the end of her life.

There is some strange lettering occurring after Henry the eighth, perhaps it has something to do with formatting, but it is very distracting

Note: Nicholas Carew was Bess's grandfather, her mom's dad
