I was originally going to just finish this book tonight, but it got so bleak that I had to pause. Sometimes it’s hard to read a book that’s dark in a realistic way, because I know some of the plot points have also happened to real people in real life, and now that I’m getting that perspective and developing empathy for those people, I’m overwhelmed and sad. Compassion fatigue is a hard thing to overcome.
