I think all of the characters would have memories of that day in detention. Now that this is all over, things are finally starting to turn around for them. The whole situation still has leftover effects on them and they now have to cope with it. They all start reflecting on everything that has happened and many memories will start resurfacing as they see how much their lives have changed.

The mood of the scene would be more resentful. Nate's mother came back after leaving them for many years. She claimed to be sober and that she had finished rehab. Nate didn't care what she was saying and her presence only made him angrier. He resents his mother for leaving him and his chaotic, falling-apart house.
