Not even close to Fermor's best, but being a bit of a completionist I read it and enjoyed it, if only moderately (relative to the three books of his walk to Istanbul, following the Danube and his travels through Greece. I envy him his linguistic ability. Anyway, his time in Special Operations in Crete during WW II was a great adventure and he almost makes it sound fun. 3 and half stars.
