Man this book has the blandest writing style and the most cardboard characters ever. Major disappointment. Thought it would get me out of a reading slump and be appropriately halloweeny but ugh

Hey, dude, I hugely recommend My Heart Is Not A Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones if you want sth in the horror genre (but also borderline literary), if you haven't read it yet!!

@Andreas, just one more thing I wanna say about that rec: even if the premise doesn't grip you (which, you know, the slasher-adjacent genre isn't for everyone), give it a go. The writing is really carefully done and some of the most important character beat happen exclusively in subtext. It's good damn writing.
