Urgh, help! I have no idea what to read - I'm getting agitated as I can't settle on anything and I NEED my next fix!

I need something that's going to provide a really emotionally satisfying read character/relationship-wise, without insta-love and nothing YA. Preferably m/m. Any suggestions?

I've read about 15 different samples of things I put aside to read next and can't get into anything! :/

SheReadsALot Have you read J.H. Knight? I hear great things about her novels. I've read only shorties from her but I was impressed.

I'm very partial to Port in a Storm - romantic and little crazy but was emotionally satisfying for me.

Borderstar Thanks for the suggestions! I'm in the middle of reading JH Knight's The Last Thing He Needs at the moment, but I kind of stalled on it at about 50% a couple of weeks ago...it's actually pretty good but I'm a bit temperamental when it comes to contemporary so I needed a bit of a break from it.

Maybe a short read will be a good idea actually. Vivian has recommended a few fantasy reads too so I think I'm going to try a couple of shorts to try and kick-start me out of my weird mood!

I completely forgot I had Port in a Storm on my TBR list - I think I added it after reading your review, which makes it sound great! ...so will go check that one out too & download the sample. Thank you for the ideas! :)

SheReadsALot Fantasy?

I wasn't sure if you liked fantasy so I went with contemporary.

Fantasy--Have you read Thick as Thieves? I like Tali Spencer's fantasy a lot.

Oh and another unicorn loved the heck out of Salt and Iron.

Borderstar Fantasy, sci-fi & pnr/urban fantasy are my faves! :D I like contemporary well enough but I get bored easily unless it's something really good/different. I enjoy them more when I rotate between genres so I tend to alternate.

Will check those two out, thanks - I think I might have sampled thick as thieves before but I've not seen the other one so will take a look. Currently reading a couple of freebie shorts to cheer me up :)

* A Reader Obsessed * Unfortunately it's not mm but I recommend finishing/continuing Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series. I also thought Kushiel's Dart was epic but it's very long. You like shifters??

message 6: by Borderstar (new)

Borderstar Ah yeah I forgot about the Black Jewel series - I read book 1 and I think I even have book 2 on kindle and never went back to the series.

Yes I like most shifter stuff - any ideas?

thanks! :)

Borderstar PS: wow, you weren't joking when you said Kushiel's Dart was long - Book #1 alone is about 1000 pages?! O_o I think I will have to give that a go when I'm feeling up to it! I used to read really long books, but these days around 300 pages is my limit!

* A Reader Obsessed * Stupid GR doesn't consistently notify me on pending convos...

I totally understand not wanting to undertake such a long novel AND it's a series. I never got past the first book but I thought it ended well where it did.

The most recent shifter book that I really liked was
Omega Heart.

Borderstar Cheers R - I know, GR is so annoying with comments. I get some email notifications but then its completely random whether I get notified on the website?! O_o

I've downloaded the sample for Cushiel's Dart anyway, as maybe I will just read the first like you. I always have great ambitions of reading books in a series back to back but very rarely do!

Thanks for the shifter rec - sounds interesting and has some good reviews. Downloading sample now! oooo and its kindle unlimited, so even better! :)

* A Reader Obsessed * Well I hope you like them should you go forth! Do you like kindle unlimited? What's the pros and cons? If you read a book it's not yours to keep right??

Borderstar I only subscribed to kindle unlimited last month and it's been pretty good so far - admittedly a LOT of the books on there are a bit rubbish, but occasionally I'll come across some stuff that's good. I'm in the UK so it's £7.99 for me a month and I can read as many books from the unlimited selection as I want. You also get one month free when you sign up. You can stop any time you want and I doubt I will constantly pay for the subscription, as I'll run out of books that are eligible that I want to read, but it's good at the mo. For a while before I subscribed I checked out every book that I put on my TBR shelf and marked it was kindle unlimited so I knew I had a few to read straight away.

Some of the following author's books are on there: Leta Blake, Jordan L Hawk, Megan Derr, Adrienne Wilder, Annabelle Jacobs, Jay Northcote etc. Plus nearly all of Anyta Sunday's stuff is on there and I've found quite a few books that are by new authors like Strong Side by Alison Hendricks that I really enjoyed. Plus they add new series and books all the time. The ones I've noted down so far are on my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Borderstar PS: yes you're right, you don't get to keep the book, but you can have up to 10 "borrowed" books on your kindle at any time. I don't think it's worth the subscription unless you would read a lot of books from the list, or you might as well just buy them. But I thought I would keep the subscription for 3 months or something and see how it goes.

* A Reader Obsessed * Thanks for that info!! I'll have to check it out. The thing is, I'm a collector and it would kill me not to have it permanently. I guess if I didn't like it that would be ok but knowing myself I'd end up buying the others :)

message 14: by Borderstar (new)

Borderstar Ha - ok yeah I have to agree. I'm pretty certain I will go back and buy a couple of the ones that I love so that I've got a copy, lol!

message 15: by Meep (new)

Meep I gave up on kindle-unlimited wasn't liking the books on offer and the few available on there I do like are ones I'd want to buy and keep. Problem is I love re-reads so wouldn't be saving money.

* A Reader Obsessed * You make a good point Meep!

message 17: by Borderstar (new)

Borderstar Yeah good point - I'm in the free trial 30 days at the moment - trying to decide if it's worth continuing.

I thought I might do it for a couple of months as that way I get 60 days for £7.99 and I've already read about 15 books from the unlimited selection worth around £35, with another 7 lined up that I want to read soon. So even if I go back and buy my favourites, I won't really lose out.

Until there's a better selection within the choices though, I don't think it's a long-term thing for me...

message 18: by Meep (new)

Meep It wasn't for me, I worked out how many books I'd have to read a month and decided it would mean reading a lot of 'iffy' books instead of finding good ones. I like to get my money's worth and the selection is limited ;)
