"Why are we so intent on assuming an inner core of sexual truth? Why do we have to rewrite our histories and dismiss experiences that were at the time extremely powerful as 'just a phase'? Would it not be better to work from the hypothesis that sexual orientation is not a given...and is in fact constantly created and recreated—as our sexual and social experiences unfold?"
