Litvinoff's ghost was pressed into service as a storyteller who helped London understand its self, one who could explain how in the 1960s a merger of criminality and bohemia and resurgent post-war energy spawned a hybridised city who's frantic spin hurled some protagonists into the stratosphere and others into a vortex

…and so, the end is nigh, both of this book & DL’s life. The book muses on both a life, and an era, and much that flowed from each, variously funny and sad, light and dark. A monstrous, infuriating, charming, evil, amoral, insightful, inspirational and fascinating man - and a marvellous read.
