Finished the first quarter and the tension is still building between the two main characters. Emily (first person narrator) has returned to town having dropped out of college and is lying about it. It is Arkansas and lesbians are not welcomed home by her family. She is not perfect and is having a real time trying to figure out Jody she left behind. That is Jody with a net boy baby who is lovable. Star-crossed you bet

Just opened the novel and read the first few pages to get oriented. I really like the way Ford writes. There is a raw and visceral directness, featuring down to earth places, people and stories. I have read a few of Ford's novels, but just getting to her breakout book. Looking forward to it.
