I finished the first of the 10 stories - the reputation repairer. I could see the cracks starting to form as the story progressed slowly peeling off the mask of how demented he truly is. How deep in his delusion he was brought on by his obsession with the King in Yellow. I thoroughly enjoyed the story despite thinly veiled racism and mistreatment towards animals. It was a chilling read.

I enjoyed the imagery of the mask. The introduction of a chemical that turns things into marble was such an interesting concept. I found it quite cruel that living animals were subjected to being turned into marble out of curiosity.
I found In the Court of the Dragon to be quite menacing. The yellow king actively pursuing and chasing the main character through dreams into reality as he lost his mind.

I am intrigued. The introduction piqued my interest and the beginning of the repairer of reputations, set in an idealistic alternate 1920s has me captivated. I plan on reading more once I have finished some urgent work. The introduction by David has mentioned some works that I’m unfamiliar with, which I will note down and look into reading at some later stage.
