Fia Callula was the poison I’d spent most of my existence searching for.

“Really, darling. I know it’s been mere days, but after everything you’ve witnessed so very closely, I thought you’d have realized which kingdom contains the true villains.”

It wasn’t fair to Fia. None of this had been. Which was the reason I’d stayed away when she’d freed me from her family’s dungeon. It was the reason I’d told my mother we were to stop and wait as soon as I’d entered her rooms with the narlow cubs still tied and clutched to my chest.

“You harbor a terrible resentment toward me, fire- breather.” “I’d learn to grow comfortable with it if I were you, dragon.”

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” “Too much, fire- breather,”

I’d thought I could ignore it. That the prince’s fate would not bother me if I refused to let it, just like I had with so many other things in this eternally long life I’d been given. It shouldn’t bother me. At all. Yet it so evidently did.

“Mother of monsters.” The prince’s voice floated like a sheet of silk over the skin. “Much better than spoiled Seelie princess.”

“Your heart has claws.” But the soft insult didn’t strike me as one should, and when I dared to meet his glowing gaze, I understood it wasn’t one.

“A blessing and a curse,” he murmured. “To have so much as a drop of royal blood in your veins.” I stared at him, frowning.
