I’ve been obsessed w/ police procedurals coming from the UK. As w/ many of its precedents, I’m able to dive into RIVER OF DARKNESS through both text & audiobook. Published in 2005, I find the narrative voice quite different, probably best described as more straightforward. It’s also set in post-WWII in the English countryside which provides another marked difference. Thus far, I’m completely captivated!
