Chapter 9: Refer to this chapter if I ever need to confront a friend, it gives a step by step including examining my own heart so I don’t have a log when helping someone’s speck. And when a friend does confront me in my sin, that means that they care more about my pursuit of Christ than their personal comfort and that’s a friend worth listening and keeping.

Chapter 8 takeaways. Because our satisfaction and fulfillment comes from being a friend of Christ, we should no longer seek those things in our earthly friends. We can be a friend to all, not a friend OF all, we are limited people. Befriend the poor, widows, and the elderly. Seek to befriend the unbeliever, not because they are people to fix but because they are people to love. This is what God desires of me :)

Chapter 6 pt.2
Just like with any friend, to cultivate friendship with God, we must make/schedule time to spend with Him. In that time, read scripture to learn more about Him, to love Him more. Pray, and then be silent. Be in nature, His creation. Be part of the local church, which at many times play as the hands and feet of Jesus.
I love how much this book is encouraging me in my relationship with God

- “At the heart of sin, there is a proclamation: God is not enough. Sin is not an issue of wrong deeds, but wrong loves.”God brings those He loved to the wilderness to show them to depend on Him (Hosea 2:14)
If the problem is forsaking God, the fix is to go to Him in repentance .

Chapter 4’s suggested friendship “Red flags”: exclusivity and isolation, feelings of jealousy, fearing friends getting married or growing close to their spouse, hesitation to make plans without that friend, feeling free to “speak for” that friend, tying finances, and others.

Chapter 2 Takeaways: To be a good friend, our identity must be in Christ and Him alone. Watch out for putting friends (or yourself) in Jesus’ place in the friendship. True friends lead each other to Christ and don’t take credit for His saving work in us.

Chapter 3 Summary: Check Motives, specially self serving ones in friendship. Don’t be a demanding, divise, or depending friend. To be a good friend, love God and neighbor.
