The verses of "John Shade", or whomever Nabokov would have us assume, are filled with an individualism forcefully at par with Eliot's "Let us go then, you and I". They don't escape your mind with an air of nonchalance, however, they stay with you, and the verse grows as your perception does, too. This is set up for brilliance, if Nabokov keeps throwing his ultimate 'shade'.
