I love how Seneca values the lived experience of being with other people and sharing wisdom and also just observing healthy behavior and adapting to live that behavior himself. Some of the most beautiful words I’ve ever read are so simple; “We will contribute greatly to each other.” He’s so enthusiastic and alive writing to his friend and feels their sprits growing simultaneously. Virtue is shared.

I recently read Flow and now I’ve been exploring some of Beck’s Cognitive Therapy of Depression. Beck locates the most ancient roots of CT in the stoics. Since order in consciousness interested me in Flow and recognizing automatic thoughts interests me in CT Seneca certainly seems relevant to me. It will be interesting to think the ethics of stoicism with my usual phenomenological books.
