This book has reminded me of Kristin Lavransdatter, My Antonia, and Little Women at different points. And I’m glad I’ve visited New York a few times, for context. I had no idea what this book was about, or when it was written, when I began reading. It took me a bit to warm up to the story, but a third of the way in, I was attached to the characters and committed to finishing.
