This may have not been a good book to start this week. All of Raybourn's heroines flout convention to some degree, but at least in Anatomist's Wife it's justified narratively. Thus far this is extreme flouting with little reward. And also, what is up with DB and unlikeable heroes? Reticent and curmudgeonly is one thing, but Stoker is downright unpleasant thus far.
