Brian Andersen Very speculative given that Tubman was illiterate. Names and places are backed up by some written and legal records but details are filled in with "probably", "may have", "likely", etc. Nevertheless it paints a picture of life in that era and culture, some of which surprised me such as the freedom of movement some slaves had. We tend to picture a house slave or a field slave living their days on a large plantation. Not always so, especially in Maryland where they may be hired out to work elsewhere. Very enjoyable (as far as content and writing in this sad story) and informative.
