Anything new that adds to what you learned from Childs?

So far from what I’ve read, Seitz is primarily clarifying for the contemporary audience what Childs meant by a canonical approach and what a canonical approach entails. He shows how, despite the caricatures made against Childs, a canonical approach does value the history “behind the text” and the development of different text traditions. One of the primary differences between the historical-critical approach and Childs’ canonical approach is that the canonical approach treats with equal respect the final form of the texts as we now have them, and it assumes a theological unity between the two testaments while retaining their distinctive voices. For me, Childs and Seitz have been helpful to see where Sailhamer lines up and where he differs. Sailhamer does not deny the developments of different text traditions, but he gives significantly less weight to them than even Childs and Seitz would.
