I think that Winston would connect with "When people ask me how I'm doing" because there is so much going through his head and so much that he is feeling, but he can't communicate that with others and he doesn't want others to know about him personally.

Winston had a very interesting point. The party could try their hardest to change your thoughts and what you see and hear every day. But, they can't ultimately change your feelings. Not even you yourself could change your feelings. I think that this gives a little hope that you still have some control over the party.

George Orwell uses the word impregnable. "They could lay bare in the utmost detail everything that you had done or said or thought; but the inner heart, whose workings were mysterious even to yourself remained impregnable." I didn't know what impregnable means but it means unable to be captured or broken into. I thought that this was an interesting word to use.

I have learned how important it is for us to think for ourselves and not be easily persuaded to go against our morals. This book is a good example of what can happen if we let someone dictate our lives.

I don't think that Winston would believe in the American dream because not everyone will have the same opportunities or want the same things. Winston would just want to be free to do and think what he wanted.

I would see Winston spending the holidays by himself because he doesn't have any family and he doesn't really have any true friends.

Winston is a very interesting character and I like how the author wrote his thoughts. Winston remembers things from the past that he doesn't think others remember which is interesting. I am excited to keep reading and learn more about the life Winston leads.

I am really liking this book so far. Winston has now illegally writing bad things about the government and he is very paranoid about what is going to happen to him. I really like how the author is writing this and how they are portraying Winston's character.

I think the author is trying to show how much influence other people have on us and how much control the government has over us and what we believe. During the 2 minutes of hate, Winston started doing what the government and others were doing even though he didn't believe the same things. The author was showing how influenced we can be by people because we don't want to stand out.
